Activity 1: Customizing Keyboard Shortcuts

1. In the Preferences dialog box, select the Shortcuts tab.
2. You will be customizing the keyboard shortcuts for some drawing tools: Brush and Eraser. Since there is a category for drawing tools in the Shortcuts tab, expand the Drawing Mode category.

3. Select the Brush tool.

The default keyboard shortcut (if any) displays. On the right side, there is also a short description of the tool. Many tools do not have shortcuts assigned to them, but you can add a shortcut if needed.

4. In the Press Shortcut Key field, type a letter or a key combination using the Shift, Ctrl, Alt keys and so on. You can also use keyboard symbols such as the comma, period, parentheses, and many other symbols.

• To remove a command's current keyboard shortcut, click Clear.
• To return a command’s keyboard shortcut to its default, click Default.

If a keyboard shortcut is already in use, the Conflict Detected dialog box will appear notifying you of the command to which it is already associated. You can continue to associate the shortcut or cancel the operation and choose another command.

5. Click Cancel to retain the default shortcuts for other tools.

• Name to search for a keyboard shortcut by its name.
• Shortcut to search for a keyboard shortcut by its actual keys that activate the shortcut.

6. In the Search field, enter the name of a keyboard shortcut or its shortcut keys.

The keyboard shortcut is highlighted in the left pane. Its shortcuts is displayed on the right pane.

7. If desired, set a different keyboard shortcut.
8. Now that you know how to set a keyboard shortcut, go ahead and customize the shortcut for the Eraser tool. You can also change the shortcuts for other tools you use frequently.
9. When you're done, click OK.
