Activity 1: Working with the Script

1. Start a new project in Storyboard Pro.
2. Name it Rocket-Rodeo followed by your initials.
3. Change the workspace by doing one of the following:

• In the Workspace toolbar, click the Horizontal Workspace button.
• Select Windows > Workspace > Workspace > Horizontal.

4. To work with the script more effectively, add a Storyboard view to the workspace. In the upper-right corner of the Thumbnails view, click the View Menu button and select Storyboard from the list. In needed, adjust the width of the Storyboard view. Your workspace should look like this:

5. In the Storyboard view, click the Caption Menu button and select Import Final Draft Script.

The Select Final Draft browser opens.

6. Select the rocket-rodeo-script.fdx file and click Open.

In the Storyboard view, the script appears in the Script caption field with all notes and formatting intact.

7. In Storyboard Pro, add a few additional panels by doing one of the following:

• In the Storyboard toolbar, click the New Panel button.
• Select Storyboard > New > New Panel.
• Press P.

New panels are added to the Thumbnails view. You can create extra panels as needed.

NOTE: Remember that you can rename captions if you find it helpful. Simply select Caption > Rename Caption and then select the caption to rename from the list, then give it a new name.

8. Now you will start moving text from the Storyboard view to the various caption fields in the Thumbnails view. Select the first panel in the Thumbnails view.
9. In the Script caption field of the Storyboard view, select the following text:

EXT. OUTER SPACE ORBIT OF MOON 37J

10. Since the selected text is a note, drag and drop the text in the Notes caption in the Thumbnails text to move. Note that the text will be copied when dragged.

NOTE: Instead of dragging and dropping, you can use the standard cut, copy and paste keyboard shortcuts to move the text.

Cut: Ctrl+X (Windows) or ⌘+X (Mac OS X)

Copy: Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘+C (Mac OS X)

Paste: Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘+V (Mac OS X)

11. Select the next line of text:

The Endurance spacecraft floats gracefully over a large moon.

12. Since this text is an action note, drag and drop the text in the Action Notes field.
13. Keep moving text into their respective caption fields. Do this for a few of the scenes. But don't worry if you don't finishing doing this for the entire script. The idea is to complete a series of panels. You can go back later and complete the task and even rearrange the text and panels if the story is not flowing nicely.

14. Save your project.
