Starting Storyboard Pro

You can run Toon Boom Storyboard Pro on Windows and macOS.
On macOS, Apple QuickTime Player is required to import audio as well as to export and play back movies.
On Windows, Windows Media Player is required to import audio as well as to export and play back movies in Windows Media Video (*.wmv) format. Additionally, QuickTime Player can be installed to allow Storyboard Pro to export video in QuickTime Movie (*.mov) format, but it is not required to use the software.
On Windows versions up to Windows 10, Adobe Reader is required to display PDF documents.
How to start
- Double-click the Storyboard Pro icon or do one of the following:
- Windows: Select Start > Programs > Toon Boom Animation > Toon Boom Storyboard Pro > Storyboard Pro.
- macOS: Select Applications > Toon Boom Storyboard Pro > Storyboard Pro.
Storyboard Pro opens. If this is the very first time you are starting Storyboard Pro, then the following screen is displayed. If you want to explore, go ahead and click one of the buttons. Otherwise, click Close.
A second Welcome screen displays.

How to install Windows Media Player
Windows Media Player is pre-installed on most versions of Windows, but may be disabled. Follow these steps to make sure it is enabled.
- From the Start menu search bar, search for Control Panel and launch the Control Panel.
- From the Control Panel, go to Programs > Turn Windows features on or off.
- In the list of Windows features, find and expand the Media Features option. Windows Media Player should listed under Media Features. If either of these options are not listed, see below.
- Ensure both the Media Features and Windows Media Player check boxes are checked.
- Click OK.
- Wait for the installation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
If Media Features or Windows Media Player is not listed in the available features, make sure your edition of Windows supports it. If it does, it may be added by installing the Media Feature Pack for Windows. To do this, click on the link corresponding to your version of Windows and follow the instructions:
